The Easy Way

Lately, I have been wondering why we are sometimes reluctant to choose the easier path.

Perhaps because many of us have been taught that difficulty carries a certain kind of virtue. That the harder something feels, the more meaningful it must be. That struggle itself is evidence of worth. And yet I am not entirely convinced.

I have noticed that nature rarely seems interested in unnecessary effort. Rivers do not force themselves uphill. Trees do not compete with the seasons. Sunlight does not apologize for taking the most direct path through an open window.

There is a quiet wisdom in the way living things move toward what allows life to continue. Not through force. Through flow.

I wonder if human beings sometimes forget this. We make simple things complicated. We carry burdens alone that others would gladly help us carry. We hesitate to ask for assistance. We choose exhaustion when collaboration might have been available. We assume that ease must somehow be earned.

But perhaps ease is not a reward. Perhaps it is a blessing.

I have begun to appreciate people who make life easier for others. The friend who explains something patiently. The colleague who shares knowledge freely. The stranger who offers directions. The person who holds a door. The teacher who makes complexity understandable. The loved one who notices you are tired and quietly helps.

These acts may seem small. But they change the texture of a day. Sometimes even the direction of a life.

I think there is a particular kind of generosity in reducing unnecessary difficulty. Not removing all challenges. Not preventing growth. Simply making the road a little gentler where we can. A little clearer. A little kinder.

I find myself wishing this more often now. May we be blessed with the easy way when the easy way is available. May we recognize that ease is not weakness. May we allow ourselves to receive help without shame. And may we become the kind of people who make things easier for one another.

The world already contains enough unavoidable difficulties. Perhaps one of the quietest forms of love is refusing to add more.
